About the Ford…  “The success of the legendary Ford Model T, produced from 1908 until 1927, was simply terrific and remained, with almost 15,000,000 sold cars, the highest sales volume car in the automotive industry for several decades. Only in 1972 this number was surpassed by the VW-Beetle. A lesser-known fact is that the Model T had a racing descendant, which was used in England in 1912. In this early age of racing the still young, built in 1907, racing circuit Brooklands; located in Weybridge, England; became very famous and captured the imagination of reckless race drivers with their often not less daring racecars. This magic also electrified the 37-year-old Arthur Edward Georg, who already built up reputation within the racing scene at that time. In 1912 he perceived the hidden racing potential of the Ford Model T. Already since 1909 the Ford Motor Company participated in several sport events to raise the awareness and presence of its bestseller. Also Arthur Edward Georg’s choice of a Ford Model T could have been influenced by these appearances. The specifically built racing model was constructed on the standard Model T chassis and was also fitted with the standard straight-four engine with 2.9 liters capacity. The performance of 20 hp was probably increased by specific tuning measures. The race car got totally new bodywork in form of a single-seater. Probably due to an easier assembly, the whole vehicle body was made of a copper-zinc alloy. As a result the Ford glinted golden and soon got the affectionate designation “The Golden Ford”.”
