CMC did their version of the W196R eleven or so years ago, and it is spectacular. Their earlier releases usually featured a removable cowl, but this one brought the art to new levels. For one thing, the envelope body is removable, exposing the inboard brakes, the engine, everything! This is one model that you should save up for, and buy the real McCoy–the CMC version–if at all possible.

I have the CMC W196 and love it but am torn as I want to display exposed but then the full look is missing so I’ll one get the CMR model and open the CMC version.
I’ve done this with the Exoto Ford GT40/MkIV (Shelby) The GMP Ferrari P4 (Joueff); TSM MP4/5 (Minichamps) etc. – displays really well.

Good idea. Another possibility is to leave the body attachment screws out. The model will display fine without them. Then the body can be lifted off when desired.
