About the Passat B3 Variant…  “The VW Passat b3 is a model of the middle class by Volkswagen. It was founded in 1988 as the successor of the VW Passat b2 presented. The new model had a transverse engine fitted and is therefore a bigger interior. Two months after the sedan execution was variant version in June 1988.  The Passat b3 was the first VW with flush staked windshield and rear window. The Glattflächige body has a CW-value of about 0,29. the b3, there were two body sedan and variant, the almost finished developed fünftürige hatchback version has been discarded. The b3 had introduced since the model a partial galvanized chassis.

Because of the transverse engine installation could not be more than a four cylinder, which is why a fünfzylinder like the predecessor was not possible. After the development of a VR engine could also be installed on a V6 engine. The performance of the serienmotoren in b3 ranged from 53 KW (72 HP) (1,6 with carb, up to 1989) to 128 KW (174 HP) strong vr6 (from 1991).”
