Mac47's 1:18 Supercars

Post by Mac47 » Sat Aug 02, 2014 3:59 am

I'm away from my collection right now, except for the Huayra which I acquired here in the Philippines. The rest is in Ohio in storage. Some of the cars I like most have been sold. Someday I'll acquire them again, or better models of them. For now, here's a retrospective of my favorite models:

The white Koenigsegg Agera R by FrontiArt, with other Koenigseggs by AUTOart:

The low point of my collecting career was when I sent a black CCX to John Fox of Custom Diecast Replicas to be resprayed green and fitted with telephone dial wheels. He sent encouraging photos, then botched the job and gave up. He also kept my $300 and my CCX. Steer clear!

I still have all these Zondas:

Sold the F1 (very sad!), but still have the Enzo. Wish I had done the reverse. The F1 was a better model, and I have always disliked the Enzo compared to other Ferraris.

Image

Still have the Diablo, but the F40 is gone. That was the worst decision I ever made about diecast.

Image

I also sold the 288 GTO. So I can't show all the super Ferraris anymore.

The most expensive model I ever bought was the Glickenhaus P4/5 Competizione. It was nice while it lasted:

I sold one, and bought another. And sold it too.

Now, I have a Huayra. Hope I can hang onto it. I still have all my Paganis (unlike my Koenigseggs, Ferraris, and Bugattis), so there may be hope for it.

Wow you put the SUPER in Supercars! Very nice collection from past and present. What is the holly grail(s) right now?

Well, as you know, AUTOart is killing us with supercars right now. My wish list at the moment, and in descending order of "gotta get it":
AUTOart Agera
Kyosho F40 high end
AUTOart McLaren F1 in silver
AUTOart McLaren F1 LM in orange
AUTOart Gumpert Apollo
AUTOart Maserati MC12 street version
FrontiArt Koenigsegg One:1 (Would be higher, but I suspect AUTOart will make it.)

The core of my collection is the Paganis and Koenigseggs.

Don't have either of these anymore.

Image

Don't have the Bleu Centenaire either.

Image

The Veyron showcars are gone too, though the production car remains.

Image

Sold my 512 TR. Wish I hadn't.

Image

Both of Mr. Wayne's cars are gone too.

Image

Or should I say, all three:

I had a blast making this scene on my driveway:

I'm depressing myself by moping about all the great models I didn't keep. Lesson learned. Never again.

Tell me about it! Agera is on its way its way (red), and I got the McLAren F1 in white when it was released. The others are must haves for me too. Expensive year! :money: :money:

I've never seen the Glickenhaus P4/5 Competizione before. Stunning model! You definitely go for quality.....when you keep 'em, that is!!

Oops. I bought this on evilBay for $227 shipped. Nice to have it back in the collection, but I won't see it for two years.

I'm hopeful that if I play my cards right, I may be able to restore my collection to its former glory by re-adding a Kyosho F40, and replacing the white Agera R with a blue one like this, which appears to still be available from Koenigsegg:

Image

But part of me wants to avoid getting any more resin models ever again. They have always proved too expensive for me to keep long-term.

Unfortunately, I've really blown my diecast budget for the year already, and I haven't bought the Gumpert or AA Agera yet. Too many models. Also want the MC12, EB110, Veyron SS, and a LaFerrari.

I actually made a wish list of resin models. Not even expensive ones. Brands like Otto/GT Spirit. When it came to ordering them, I just couldn't move myself to do it. All I was thinking was 'why am I buying this if I can get a diecast for the same money?'

So like you, I too don't want to buy a resin ever. Unless it's extremely special to me, or extremely cheap.

I'm actually holding off on the AUTOart Agera just because it is so similar to the CCX and I'd much prefer one with a big spoiler like the blue Agera R above — which AUTOart actually showed on their handsample for the Agera. I've asked AUTOart if they're gonna make the Agera R or S or One:1, but no answer yet.

Just watched the National Geographic Megafactories episodes on Pagani, Koenigsegg, and Gumpert. The atmosphere, morale, and confidence in the Pagani and Koenigsegg factories was a stark contrast to the harried looks and furrowed brows of Gumpert's workers. It's no surprise to me that Gumpert went under. Both Pagani and Koenigsegg looked like great places to visit. Gumpert, not so much. But what a machine the Apollo is! I hope to get the AUTOart in blue.

I am currently lusting after, and not buying, a Scale Figures set of the three Top Gear presenters, plus the Stig. I think they would be more marketable if they were seated in a driving position. Do I want them? Sure, but $500+ for three tiny figurines is ridiculous.
