Pablo Pozo – September 2017

Tell us what this hobby means to you? 14 questions answered by you, Pablo Pozo from Quito, Ecuador.

We’re always looking for more collectors to feature on DiecastSociety.com Diecast Collector Of The Month (DCOTM). Click HERE for all the details! ** Remember, for your efforts all winning candidates will be mailed a pair of www.DiecastSociety.com decals! **

1) What first got you collecting diecast? How long have you been collecting? What is your total model count as of today?

I´ve worked in the car business for 27 years now,  I live a life around cars but you can´t always have them all, so the solution: downsize them!  I started my collection back in 1995 so its over 22 years in the making now. At this point I have about 420 1:18´s, about 30 1:24´s about 80 1:43´s and 2 1:12´s

2) What was your first diecast or memory?

BBurago Jaguar E-Type, BBurago Chevrolet Corvette 1956.

3) What is your favourite scale, and why?

1:18, good balance of size and detail, 1:43 has some very special models for me also.

4) What are some of your favourite models to date? Did you share any photos with us?

Exoto Porsche 935, CMC 1963 Porsche 911, Schuco Porsche 934, Universal Hobbies Land Rover Defenders.

5) Is there a model that has eluded you, a holy grail of sorts?

All in 1:18: Spark RUF CTR Yellowbird, AUTOart BMW 323i, Kyosho BMW 2002 Turbo, Revell 1978 Mercedes Benz 450SE.

6) What is your favourite brand/manufacturer, and why?

Schuco, absolutely astounding detail and excellent price; AUTOart, detail and somewhat affordable (at least it was…); CMC (un-affordable) Best quality and detail.

7) Describe your current theme and what your overall goal is?

I´m more or less very diversified, my latest are All Red VW GTI´s (7 generations) BMWs (old 3 series) and Porsche + Audi Le Mans racers.

8) Do you display your collection? If yes, how?

Yes, lack of space is a problem though. Currently we´re building a new house and will get a private studio with enough space for display.. Right now they occupy most of our living room and bedroom, and have at least 100 models stored away…

9) Do you have any other hobbies, passions or addictions?

Real life 4×4´s, Dirt bikes, Bicycles, Electronic gadgets.

10) What do you think about the diecast hobby as it stands today?

Petty about the lack of opening bits and plastic bodies on new AUTOarts and Minichamps, the exterior finish and detail has improved significantly from the early BBuragos or Maistos.  The prices are too high now, even though collectors shops like CK Modelcars make great efforts to keep us collectors going!! Also now you can find almost any model new or discontinued on Ebay…  If your Wallet can hold on though!

11) If you could change one thing about the diecast hobby what would that be?

There are some models that have just now started to appear like BoS Dodge Ramcharger, but we are still missing 1:18 Broncos, Blazers, 70-80´s Jeep CJs and YJs, IH Scouts, 70´s Ford, Chevy and Dodge Pickups, 70s n 80s Nissan and Toyota compact pickups.

12) Do you modify cars? If yes, what are some examples?

Yes, my modified VW´s with custom wheels, I also like to complete the details with some transkits from Tremonia like my Bburago Ferrari GTO.  My custom equipped Defender 110 Camel Trophy is were most of the work is…  Pictures attached.

13) What does your spouse, partner or significant other think of your hobby and your collection?

Wants to kill me! But so far hasn’t and I thank her for that.  This is far better for me than drugs, booze or cigarettes anyway!

14) What is your daily driver?

1980 Nissan Patrol MQ fully customized, 2003 Mitsubishi Montero SWB V6, 2013 and 2015 VW Amarok 4×4.

Congratulations on being this month´s DCOTM. I wish, you would have waited until the collection is on display in your new house´s studio, though. I really like to look at other collector´s display solutions.
