Our friends at KK Scale are on to another project, their latest replica is the BMW E23. About the BMW E23…  “In 1977 the high class of BMW got a successor who became a symbol of luxury, elegance and innovation: the BMW 7 Series. Stylistically influenced by the BMW’s chief designer Paul Bracq, BMW managed to create a car that was larger than its predecessor, but it still had the typical BMW dynamism. Formal leaned that with much sophistication tailored to understatement of bodywork to the BMW 6 Series Coupé in the essential elements of style.  With the introduction of the BMW 7 Series, there were now in conjunction with the 3, 5 and 6 Series a complete model family whose various types were to be seen as belonging to each other at first sight because of their similar, yet distinctive designs. “The visual and technical unity of all model series produced,” said the Sales Director Hans-Erdmann Schönbeck firmly, “are undeniably again a” family “with many similarities”.

The customer could initially choose between three models with 2.8 liters and 170 hp, 3.0-liter with 184 hp and 3.2-liter with 197 hp. The basic prices amounted to 29,300 DM for the BMW 728 and DM 33,600 for the Type 730. Additionally 5,000 DM had to pay those customers who wanted to acquire the flagship 733i.  In June 1986 ended the production of this series, 285.029 copies were made. The most popular model was the 728i with 70.360 units, followed by the 735i with 60.818 units. In total 16.848 BMW 7 Series have been sent as CKD kits to South Africa. There customers could also buy the biggest motorized BMW 7 Series.  This milestone in BMW history is expected to be available in scale 1:18 from the end of May in the colors silver and black.”
