Who here doesn’t like concepts cars?  I first set my eyes on the Jaguar F-TYPE Project 7 Concept on an episode of Top Gear.  It was love at first sight!  The car was developed by Jaguar’s special project team.  It was inspired by elements of the iconic D-Type and also was a celebration of the seven victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which Jaguar achieved between 1951 and 1990.

The scale model we have here was manufactured from TopSpeed, a sister brand of TrueScale Miniatures – a limited edition piece of 999.  For collectors of Sport, Exotic, and Supercars they are definitely the flavor of the month.  Why you may ask?  It’s quite simply really…  They have a great assortment of marquees, speed to market, good detail and quality, and a price point at less than $150CND, taxes in.

At first glance the exterior paint of the scale Project 7 Concept invites you in for more.  To me it’s a blend of a Blue/Green mix.  TopSpeed’s application is very good front to rear.  Shutlines and panel gaps are excellent, as this is very common of sealed, resin models.  I would also give the exterior carbon fibre elements a B+ in look and finish.  Overall ride height mirrors the original nicely too.

Side intakes/cooling are clearly defined and feature the Jaguar script.  Also the decal underneath the side mirrors is present.  One thing I see differently on the model that I did not see on the 1:1 was the British flag is included on the model and the 1:1 does not have it showing.  Anyone know why?

The elephant in the room when looking at the front view of the Project 7 Concept are the grilles.  They are massive on this car.  Unfortunately for us they were developed with textured solid pieces, which in my opinion detracts from the overall result.  They look extremely poor.  Other than this big miss the model would have gotten near perfect marks based on price point.

The remaining front elements are very good.  This includes chin spoiler wrapped in carbon fibre.  Headlights do provide definition of both the main ballast and LED elements.  The White stripe is applied with care and also sees the “Project 7” script.  Finally front Jaguar emblem is crafted in metal.

The rear of the model is up to speed as well.  All elements such as taillights, carbon fibre, spoiler and decals represent the original well.  TopSpeed is on point!

Moving to the wheels, the Project 7 Concept excels here once again.  The rims themselves are made of carbon fibre, TopSpeed’s creations are excellent!  The carbon fibre elements and the painted Black elements are a perfect marriage.  Rotors and caliper definition are both on par, and the team included the Jaguar script and design on the side profile of the tires.  Uber in execution, fit and finish!

One word of caution to TopSpeed and collectors who keep their models in the box.  I found my example was overall tightened and could create long term flat spots on the rubber.

Inside the cockpit of Project 7 Concept we find an all Black interior with Silver painted bits throughout.  All the elements are here, but the model doesn’t provide the lush feel or depth the original.  One cool addition is the provided passenger, in the Project 7 Concept the passenger is defined as your helmet.  One thing I did not like on my sample was the gap where the interior meets the rear body, slightly excessive for my tastes.

TopSpeed’s Jaguar F-TYPE Project 7 Concept model is a delight!  I love the fact the team took a chance on a concept vehicle, and their choice was a perfect specimen to bring to scale.  Overall the model is well executed.  The biggest miss is the front cooling/grilles.  If the team ever figures out how to put the extra pennies into perforated pieces along with their choice of marquees (as of late) they would be a force to be reckoned with.   Enjoy the pics!
