Diorama Box DIY

Post by CarArtRama » Tue Jun 27, 2017 12:08 am

I'm finally getting around to making a garage diorama, 1:24 scale. I'm starting with a box made of birch panels. These aren't very expensive, they come from an art store. The 2 sides I got at the dollar store for $4 a piece. The walls are 12" inches high, enough for two floors. The width is 24" and the depth is 16". You can purchase much larger panels if you want.

The box is meant to be easy to assemble and disassemble for storage. It is put together with 8 screws, without any need for glue. The box is very light and easy to move around. If you want to do something similar, make sure the screw holes are all pre-drilled to minimize the risk of the wood splitting. I used number 8 wood screws, 2.5" for the base, 2" for the sides.

Next steps will be to seal the wood and prime it for painting.
