New wheels for Norev Porsche 930

Post by Marcel171281 » Thu May 14, 2020 4:33 am

Fellow collectors, Has anyone ever taken the wheels of the Norev Porsche 930? If so, how?

I get the impression it is just a matter of pulling, but not sure...

Have dissambled many models, but never a Norev, so want to make sure not to break the axles.

Thanks!

I have remembered my friend Florin did the update, unfortunately, he's lost interest in the hobby... See thread:

Thanks! Going for exactly the same mod on the 930 :rotfl:

Do you think he will still respond to a PM?

As I recall, they are snapped on. Kind of like the old Bburagos, but the axle is slotted.

If I'm correct, twist and pull at the same time. Less likely to break something if the axles are removed from the model. You can run them under some hot water to soften them up. Don't use a hair dryer or heat gun as it is too hot and could melt the plastic.

Installing new wheels would require some customization.

Got the wheels off and received the new wheels form Uli Nowak. It is not the easiest fit, but we will get there.

The original wheels are very narrow and the suspension very high in order to fit the original balloon tyres. So I had to do some modification to the suspension and did a first fit. What do you guys think? Too aggressive? I think the rear is slightly too low (but still has sprung suspension so can be changed) and the camber on the front is just too much (and that's not so simple, it will take grinding...).

Also what colour to paint the centers of the wheels? I think gun metal or gold, but not sure yet.

SEX ON WHEELS. Well done! What I'd do to own the 1:1 :woot:

PS - Gunmetal, will play off the Black accents :okay:

The fitment looks good, however the tires would benefit from a meatier look. There is too little tire for the wheel arch at the rear. The front is okay. Gunmetal would look great. Don’t forget to detail the lug nuts and some BBS center cap decals. If you wanna go super crazy, rbmotion.com have some tire valves.

Well done! The tires profile is a bit low. I would raise the rear a little, it will look better. Gunmetal will look good on the BBS.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

The rear will be raised a bit, so the gap between the tyre and arch will be the same as the front. The diameter of these tyres is exactly the same as the real car (if you do it x 18 of course). The front will get less camber, it's quite extreme now when looking straight at the front of the car. The tyres are hitting the suspension at the moment at the bottom. Shaving off 1 or 2 mm will do the trick.

BBS decals already in stock and the lug nuts will be detailed (aluminium) after the centers are sprayed. Decided to go for gun metal, and probably red brake calipers (have a nice set of photo etched disks ready with new calipers). The interior will get a makeover as well, like flocking etc. Will ad some red to the interior I think as well to match the brakes. I like silver cars with red interiors parts :P

Done:

In the end didn't go for full gun metal, but Tamiya light gun metal. The normal gun metal turned out too dark, loosing too much of the shape of the BBS LM. Also flocked the interior and changed it to red.
