Welly 1:18 Porsche 911 Carrera RS - #18044

Post by davy26 » Fri Dec 04, 2020 9:45 am

I have just bought one of these (in green) this and am very pleased with it - great quality and attention to detail considering the relatively low price. However, I would like to replace the wheels with a different Fuchs pattern set I have obtained from another source. I am very concerned not to break or damage my new model and am having difficulty seeing how the wheels are fixed to the axles/hubs. Are they retained by what appears to be a metal rivet head in the wheel centre, (or is that a plastic pin/cap)? I would be very grateful for help please. Many thanks, David :)

I wish I could help. Usually, it is screwed in place or tough and pull.

Thanks Kraftig - much appreciated.

In case there's a member familiar with Welly's practice generically, I'm posting pictures showing the front and rear wheels. If anyone can determine from these how the wheels should be removed, I'll be very grateful. Many thanks.

As I haven't been able to contact anyone with this knowledge I have very carefully set about the wheel change, first taking the body off. I found that by gentle and patient prising the wheels and discs come off, having been simply an interference fit onto the axle stub sleeves. So this was easier than expected, and, even better, I then found that the KKScale wheels are a straightforward fit on to the axle stubs and their hub/sleeves. Although I've never seen a Fuchs Porsche wheel I don't like, I think the bright finish version provides the classic Carrera 2.7 RS look, so I'm now even happier with this Welly model :).

Thanks Modifer - much appreciate you taking the trouble to reply and post your photos. That's as I found myself - as per my last post - and I suppose, as with most models, the important thing is to do any prying gently and progressively in order to avoid breakages. You model looks very nice - 911s are so well suited to longitudinal stripes like that. With kind regards. David 👍😊👍

No problem, I noticed that you already figured it out how to get the wheels off after my reply
