The Beginnings - Wes' 1/18th Super Car and GT3 Genre

Post by Wbgoode77 » Sat Apr 25, 2020 2:10 pm

I'm a new collector and over the past 10 months I've been methodically considering which cars I want to collect. I've picked up a few for my collection and a few for illustrative purposes to aid in a business endeavor I'm working on. With the addition of my latest model, I decided to start this thread. I think mainly to see if there are people out there as OCD about this stuff as me :D

The actual model is still on it's way (on a boat somewhere in the Pacific) but since it will be my flagship model (for now), I wanted to be hyper-sensitive regarding how it will displayed. It's the AUTOart PAGANI ZONDA REVOLUCION (CARBON FIBER/WHITE). Those of you familiar with this subject know the level of engine detail and that's one of the reasons it peaked my interest so...plus it's 1:1 counterpart being an incredible compilation of art and engineering! Back to the engine bay...I wanted to display it with the engine cover off, I wanted it protected from dust/UV, etc, I wanted it to be a showcase. In order to do that, I needed the case to have a larger footprint than your typical 1/18 case...therefore opting for a 1/12 version. Going with the 1/12th Atlantic-Case Dieppe and had some really cool solid aluminum 'cylinder-things' that I had come, across a few years ago. I'll use these craft a stand for the engine cover. I also have Paris at (@prdminiatures on IG) working on a potential design that I may opt for instead. Back to the OCD comment...below are some shots of the mock-up...but in my defense, when ordering a case that cost as much as a solid diescast car and will take several weeks to get here, one has to be sure it will work! Mock up pictures for now and hopefully by the time the model and case get here I'll have a better way of taking photos to show you guys my collections. Any insight on how to build a photo booth using an iPhone will be greatly appreciated!

I also want to thank those forum members that helped out with dimensions...definitely would have been more challenging, if at all possible, without your help! THANK YOU!

Before I post the photos, here is a list of cars I own (actual pics forthcoming)...

AUTOart - McLAREN 650S GT3 BATHURST 12 HOUR WINNER 2016 S.VAN GISBERGEN/A.PARENTE/J.WEBB #
MINICHAMPS - Porsche 911 Gt3 R Type 991 Winner Daytona 2017 N° 27 Alegra
AUTOart - LIBERTY WALK LB-WORKS LAMBORGHINI AVENTADOR (METALLIC SKY BLUE)
GMP - 1967 FORD FAIRLANE #66 STREET FIGHTER
AUTOart - PAGANI ZONDA REVOLUCION (CARBON FIBER/WHITE)

PS (Need help with a better solution for pics...one without the watermark...thoughts? And don't forget, guidance on a DIY photo booth would be greatly appreciated)

Nice, I see the mini-project is coming along nicely... Good start to the collection too. What are those metal pieces with the screw? I want to see photos when all is complete!

Try Flicker as a photo storage option. As for the DIY photo booth. Simple light, single colour background (white or black) and tri-pod should help. Check out the HOW TO >> PHOTOGRAPHY under the LINKS above.

The metal pieces are actually solid aluminum. Think they we’re mounts for a large piece of glass...found them at a construction site. They have so much weight to them, if I can fabricate something off of them to attach to the Zonda metals pins (I have some killer neo-magnetic that show attach nicely)...I could be off to the races for a stand. I also have PRDMiniaturea working up a design that’ll probably put mine to shame, lol.

I’ll definitely get you pics of my DIY...as to the whole display, it’ll probably be a month or more before I get the actual case :-(

Thanks for direction on the photo booth and I’ll try flicker

Had a little fun today building a DIY photo box. Unfortunately the depth is a little too shallow for some angles but turned out okay for a first try,

Well done! What material did you use for the backdrop? I like the matt look.

Found some time to use my new D.I.Y. Photo box and snapped some shots of my collection. I’ll forewarn you, I didn’t read the article on “how to set focus points or how to insure crisp photos on iPhone” until afterwards. Oh well, they’ll be better next time. I’m rather pleased with the overall results though.

Let’s start with my only classic...GMP ‘66 Ford Fairlane #66 GULF livery...
