Thanks bhoneydew!

Last of the models I bought last week is the AutoArt Maserati Quattroporte GTS. Nicely executed model.

Something very different this time.

I normally don't really collect open wheel race cars, like F1 or Indycar, because I don't think they are very nice to look at. But sometimes I make an exception. I add 1 F1 car every year from Max Verstappen (because i'm dutch and following F1 for more than 25 years). This years additions is the Spark Red Bull RB13 from the malaysian GP, which he won.

Love the F1 cars and the Alonso Indy. The flat paint on the Verstappen looks really good. Let's see what he can do in Britain.

That Maserati looks fantastic! Any particular reason you didn't go for the blue version with the cognac interior? That would be my go to choice for that car.

Not really any particular reason. I know someone that has one in this dark silver and I like it in that color.

Today this arrived:

AutoArt Porsche 959. For some reason I never clicked on the buy button with this one. But now I did. It was for sale at CK Modelcars, so I thought why not. I had years to think about which color to choose, but I was still in doubt until I ordered. :shame: Finally went for white, because it just looks good in white.

Nice edition. I originally had the Exoto version. Sold it for the AUTOart release. Slightly better equipped overall.

Re: Marcel's 1/18 scale collection (building garage diorama)

Post by Marcel171281 » Sun Aug 19, 2018 4:20 am

This update doesn't involve a new car, but something I was planning on doing for years. Building a garage diorama in 1/18th scale that fits the cars in the collection.

I took some photos to see what the layout looks like. It is far from finished, but it give an impression.

Impressive! I'm curious, what motivates one to build a diorama?

hahaha, uhm that's a good question.

I think it is very personal. I like to make or build things, everything on my house for instance I do myself, I have never hired a contractor in my life. I have a very busy job, and it makes me calm down and relax. Some people do it by walking on the beach, I like to build things. If I had the time I wouldn't collect die-cast, I would be a moddeler.

Also every time I see someone take pictures of there models in a diorama, I think it is very nice to see the cars in there 'natural environment'. Ad that to the above and the idea for a diorama is there.

Next one is a must have for me. It's the Initial D AE86 (final project).

I used to own a AE86 trackday car untill about 10 years ago, but it rusted away eventually and was sold in pieces. It was the best car I have ever driven and owned and will never be beaten. I have a massive softspot for these cars, and so does everyone who has ever driven one.

About the model, made by AutoArt. It's nice, maybe not there absolute best afford (engine is a bit rough and missing details), but decent. Also made from plastic, which is a bit weird when you pick it up (i'm sure it's the lightest model I own), but the panel gaps and paint are superb. Also no risk of paint rash. Altough nobody knows how the plastic wil hold up the next 20 years.......

I don't understand all the hype about this car, but understand everyone has their vice :)
