Hi guys,
Been a member for a while but not really had much to post, so I thought I'd share a few of my F1 models. The bulk of my cars are those driven by Jenson Button, so let's start with the car from his second ever Grand Prix start, and the race in which he scored his first World Championship points.

Re: Dan's F1 Collection
Beautiful recovery. I like Formula One cars.
Re: Dan's F1 Collection
Thanks for sharing Dan. Great photos too
Re: Dan's F1 Collection
Thanks guys. This one is the black test car from the end of season test at Jerez in 2004. This is a converted model - it was completely stripped down and repainted, and various components were detailed with carbon fibre and rivet/fastener decals.

Re: Dan's F1 Collection
Make beautiful presentations. Keep going!
Re: Dan's F1 Collection
Thanks guys. There's a gap in what I have photographed now (all my old pics of the entire collection were on Photobucket), so here's Jenson's 2011, 2013 and 2014 race cars:

Re: Dan's F1 Collection
One of my favourite F1 cars of all time (wonder why?), but probably not one of Minichamps finest. This was made during their brief experiment with a cheaper range of F1 cars, released under the "car collection" banner in 2009-2010. No steering and other features cut-back, like detail on the steering wheel, in the cockpit and in the finesse of some of the plastic parts. All in the name of saving £5-10 off the retail price! Regardless, these are amongst the most sought after modern F1 cars on the market.
I added some detailing to mine to help try and break up the masses of white on the the plasticky wings - pictures against a black backdrop don't really show many of these changes off very well, but by default the underside of the front wing would have been white. Just one such example of Minichamps corner-cutting giving the model no "depth", and a quite toy-like appearance.

Re: Dan's F1 Collection
Nice! Love the simple livery one this one!
Re: Dan's F1 Collection
Thanks. I love it too, especially pre-season when it had even less sponsor logos and didn't have the yellow on the wheel covers. Jenson also used his proper helmet colours in the pre-season testing which looked amazing with the livery. I'd like to convert the model photographed above to the pre-season car actually, as they released it in two versions from the same race and I have both in my collection.
Minichamps recently re-released the model in the Abu Dhabi GP livery, which is my most recent addition to the collection...

Re: Dan's F1 Collection
Looks great! How are you dialling these solid images in with the camera? TIA
Re: Dan's F1 Collection
Thanks. I've got a pop-up light tent and a photo studio that I use - the newest images of the Abu Dhabi livery Brawn were shot in the studio, everything else so far in the old pop-up tent. Settings wise, I shoot them at ISO 100 and use aperture priority set to about f/16 to get some depth of field and then let the camera adjust the shutter speed to get the exposure where I want it (live view helps here, you can move the focus point around to find an area of the image that gives you a good balance).
After that it's just a matter of cleaning them up in Photoshop - removing dust and particles from the model, cloning out dust spots on the camera sensor and cleaning up the background to make it pure white/black where possible.
Here's a few more Jenson Button cars shot alongside the corresponding 1:2 scale helmet, which I also collect.

Re: Dan's F1 Collection
I see. I wish I had more time to take on another hobby What material are you using as the backdrop?
The latest images are brilliant too.

Re: Dan's F1 Collection
Thanks. Photography is my main hobby, mostly of aircraft and racing cars.
The backdrops are mostly provided with the tents - they're a flock material on one side and a nylon/polyester on the other, but the new studio didn't come with any backdrops so I had to buy some card. I purchased white, satin and matt black, and also a black glitter, but I only really like the look of the matt black and white. The others show too many reflections from the lamps, so I'm on the look-out for some fabric I can use.
Another one from the collection - my only AUTOart. Love this model - the detailing and finesse on the aerodynamic parts is superb. Helmet not so great, but overall I think it's better than a Minichamps.
