Billy Cabinet #5

Post by [KRAFTIG] » Fri Feb 23, 2018 4:30 pm

Just setup cabinet #5. Complete with glass shelves and fully sealed too. This equates to 115 new models. Seems IKEA found away to further cost out the standard Billy cabinet. Connector bolts are now plastic! :money: :money:

Agreed! I hope that thing is bolted to the wall.

With what? I'm seriously going to slow down the resin collecting to only the most essential pieces for me. Diecast/Composite with opening parts are few and far between. :shame:

Just seeing this thread now, but glad I did. Planned to head to Ikea this weekend to finally grab a Billy cabinet but I had no idea they had this style with the doors like that. It's far better than the other designs for car display. Perfect!

Edit: Never considered the cost of extra shelves. At $15 USD per glass shelf it really adds up the price doesn't it?

$20 Canadian each, that's crazy! I see you have, what, 28 shelves there? That adds up to more than the cabinet itself!

Total, with shipping (because this thing won't fit in my car) comes to $618, even with a discount on the cabinet. That's a lot, but it's the best cabinet I've come across and I do want to finally display my cars. They just sit in their boxes under a sheet in a corner of my place. :shame:

Its more like 12-13 glass shelves. There isn't much else at this price point, all in all it decent quality and looks the part too.

PS, don't forget to add the weather stripping foam to the perimeter of the doors to create an almost dust free home!

Ahhh okay, I thought it was 2 shelves side by side for some reason, not one shelf all the way across. That will be a more reasonable price then.

I will definitely try to seal up the cabinet from dust, thank you for the tips!

Trying to get an idea on how many cars I can fit on a shelf, do you have any pics of your other Billy's with cars in it? I only have 67 (and growing) cars to fill it up with.
