Autoart Open window boxes

Post by CeJay » Mon Dec 03, 2018 5:46 am

Hi

I'm just wondering, I'm about to sell a few models, that are in open window Autoart boxes, but not all of them have the straps. What do people use in this case? As I want to make sure the models don't become damaged in transit, but I don't have the original plastic straps to hold them down.

thanks in advance.

I use painters tape and in some cases rubber bands.

Yup, I wrap the model in tissue paper or paper towel, so that there's no chance of tape residue on the painted surfaces (or decal lifting), and then use blue painter's tape to secure the paper around the model.

some types of rubber in combination with some types of paint can react to each other, so be carefull.

UT models had big problems in the past with rubber tyres dissolving paint on the wheels. And myself had it last year after respraying wheels on a Maisto model.

Good to know, didn't know that. Even in a short time frame for a couple of days whilst shipping? I see that some people use painters tape, isn't that harming the paint?

Absolutely not, the complete opposite in fact.

I've never had complaints using thin Tamiya model tape (it's a lot like painters tape, but very thin width) to secure the opening parts. I wouldn't leave tape on long term, but for a day or so in shipping it's perfectly fine.

Certainly do NOT use regular old scotch tape. I've received models with only scotch tape and the opening parts were not secure, causing damage to the car.
