AutoArt 1998 Toyota TS020 GT-One #28 Zent

Post by Gavin » Tue Dec 04, 2012 4:11 pm

driven by Brundle/Collard/Helary at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, although didn't finish. A little history from wikipedia,
Introduced in time for Le Mans in 1998, the GT-One first appeared at the official testing days for the race held in May. Three GT-Ones appeared, setting the 2nd, 5th, and 10th best times, easily beating out custom built prototypes which were meant to be the superior class. For the race week itself, all three cars performed admirably in qualifying by continuing their quick pace, qualifying 2nd, 7th, and 8th, being beaten only by their GT class competitor, Mercedes-Benz.

For the race itself, the #28 GT-One suffered from a high speed accident halfway through the race, taking it out of competition. The two other entrants continued to fight on, both remaining in the top 10. However, within the closing hours, the higher ranked #29 GT-One suffered a gearbox failure while in competition for the race win. Thus Toyota was left to take 9th place in the race with the lone #27 entry, which ended the race 25 laps behind the winning Porsche 911 GT1.
One of AA's best pre-Signature line models, In my opinion. Great details, paint/livery, stance & not to mention they were once cheap...paid $43 shipped off Ebay (probably 8 years ago now). I prefer the '98's striking livery over the kind of plain '99 cars.

Yeah I owned one of these briefly. It was a cool model. I thought about maybe getting one and converting it to a road version but decided against it

I love these cars! I picked one of these up from my local diecast shop back around 2002 as an open box. Mine is the #1 from 1999.

Thanks for sharing your pictures. It’s hard to believe that this much detail was available for $50 back then. Of course $50 was “worth” more too.

My pleasure...glad you liked them. It is crazy how affordable even higher end models used to be. I paid a whopping $43 shipped (!!) for this beauty, MIB.
