BBR Ferrari 512BB LM Presentation

Post by [KRAFTIG] » Sat Jan 18, 2014 11:25 am

Some new comers to the hobby may ask what makes BBR models so special? Why are they regarded by some as the pinnacle of scale model replicas of the Ferrari brand name? Well once upon a time BBR played with diecast, they along with Kyosho released this beautiful piece, the Ferrari 512BB LM Presentation car.

The model has since numerous variants over its run, but I consider this one my favorite. It took me a number of years to acquire one at a fair price, and thanks for Joey (aka jface) I'm now a proud owner of one. Thank you Joey! Here's a few photos that show-off this masterpiece. One of the most detailed models I've seen to date

Nice.

I've got the blue one, and am afraid to even take it out of the box. I appreciate the excellent pictures so that I can enjoy mine vicariously through yours.

Thanks!

Impressive detailing but the car does nothing for me. Looks hideous and out of proportion.

Why not enjoy it? It doesn't seem fragile to me.

Ahhh a race car is supposed to be hideous and improportionate. That's what makes them so sexy and charismatic.

No words :shame:
 Just kidding, Dennis!

I love the lines on this...hard to believe there was once a regular 512BB underneath. I'd love to get one of the racing versions.

Gavin definitely get one! You'll regret otherwise, and the racing liveries seem to be priced well below the average.

And the story behind BBR and Ferraris is quite different IMHO. They have been making Ferrari models from before Kyosho existed.
How would you rate this model? Is it one of their best? It's a shame they went resin after seeing this one first hand :shame:

Lucky13 wrote:They never made diecast models with the exception of the 375. Everything else is Kyosho. The only reason BBR configures anywhere on the models is pure licensing issues. That aside I think that from anything to ever come out branded as BBR, this is the best model of them all.
It shows four very important things to me.
1) how ridiculously overpriced resin models are
2) what Kyosho is really capable of if they really try
3) there is a way around mattel's monopoly on Ferrari models
4) this really shows how much Ferrari collectors and fans are losing by mattel having exclusive rights
I see.

Quite an amazing contrast to where Kyosho is today

Though it has taken them years to finally produce some good quality models, I think they are more than capable of producing some great examples. Now if they can harness this greatness into more variety be it Ferrari and beyond, and do it within reasonable production times they could be a contender to knock AA out of first ;)
