Exoto 1/10 Ford GT40
I'm sure most of you already know the story behind this car, but for those of you that don't, here it is. Now this is just an approximate story, based on what I can remember off the top of my head right now, so bear with me. Back in the early 60s, Henry Ford tried to acquire Ferrari, only to have old man Enzo give him the finger. Obviously pissed off, Ford decided to get back at Enzo at a place where it would hurt him most - the race track. So he tasked his performance department to design a car to beat Ferrari, out of which came out the MkI GT40, which was neither good looking, nor successful. The MkII, which is the car you see here, was given to the Shelby team (Carroll was doing VERY well in racing at the time), who made a winner out of it. So in 1966, Ford finally scored a Le Mans win with a dominating 1-2-3. There is some controversy about the win. I think it was the blue and red car that was supposed to win, but when the order came down to Bruce McLaren (driver of this car), he flat out refused to come in second or third. As a result, this car ended up winning 1966 Le Mans, sparking a period of Ford's domination of Le Mans, much to Enzo's dismay.
This thing is quite heavy at 7.4 pounds - I weighed it. Exoto has been moving forward in leaps and bounds, so the current 1:18 Jaguar D-type will probably put this model to shame detail-wise, but it won't beat it in terms of grandeur. It has presence, mostly thanks to the gargantuan scale, but also due to the high lustre of the paint. There is some minimal paint rash here and there, even though the previous owner never took it out of the box. Now let's get to the details.
A walk-around first.
Now with everything open + cat in the back.
The engine is obviously impressive, and I particularly love the radiators on either side that remind me of apartment/condo buildings.
You can tell I love little springs.
Heat-reflecting shield.
I like how the cylinders are numbered.
Strangely, those bulging side intakes are not hollow. A huge omission, in my opinion.
There are seemingly hundreds of rivets and latches all over the car.
Bruce McLaren's Kiwi roots.
These are functional but it's hard to open them without taking the entire window along.
I love this.
The seats look like they're fabric, and I wish they were, but they're rubber. Love all those ventilation holes as well. They're not visible, but the seats rest on a series of what look like belts. The gear shifter is movable. The interior is definitely this model's strongest suit.
Thanks for looking!

That thing is insanity, an heirloom almost. Not a huge fan of the GT40 (dont kill me, yanks!) but I am a huge fan of this model. I want to touch it, lol.
Would like a pic to really get the scale of it. Like with a Coca-Cola can.

The details are insane, I can not believe how they did this. With so much work into it, I suppose it will cost a fortune.

At $1300 cdn (about $1000 usd), I think it's pretty fair. A very good deal, actually. But the listed price of $4500 usd? Nah!!!Zondaracer wrote:The details are insane, I can not believe how they did this. With so much work into it, I suppose it will cost a fortune.

I asked him what his lowest price was and he said $1300.

Nice!
Re: Exoto 1/10 Ford GT40
really impressive detail...can't imagine how big this must be. 1/12s are huge to me.
Re: Exoto 1/10 Ford GT40
Great great replica. Too bad it is odd scale.
Will have to make do with 1:18 model of X1 which is actually really good. Pity they never did 1966 Winner as a single release 1:18 model.
Your next centerpiece has to be 1:8 scale now.
