Exoto 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Coupe #50

Post by Gavin » Wed Sep 16, 2015 12:16 pm

Driven by Roger Penske (yes, that Roger Penske ;) ) to 3rd place at the Nassau Speed Week.

Only 5 of these Grand Sports were built. The plan was to make more to sell to privateers, but GM management put a ban on racing. Substantially lighter than the production C2 & using a 485hp 377ci V8, it had performance to back up its looks.

This is the only true Exoto (the other 2 are Motorbox editions) in my collection. Exoto is the only manufacturer that makes the Coupe version of the brutally aggressive Corvette Grand Sport. Its an old model, based on a mold first released in 1999, so it has doglegs everywhere. That being said, the details otherwise are excellent. Absolutely love this model. I did lower the front, as it rides very high stock (not that it is incorrect, but looks more aggressive when its lower).

What did you have to do to lower the nose?

Nice comparison photos, too.

Thanks, Jim.

FLM had sent me instructions a while back...I basically just wedged a ziptie into the compressed suspension. It didn't work out as well for the rear.

The red part circled is the ziptie.

Did the GS Coupe race in Sunoco livery? I don't know that I've ever seen one...only the Roadster.

Exoto did the '66 Corvette racers in that livery.

Yeah I saw that one. No idea if a Sunoco GS Coupe even existed!
