GMP McLaren M8B Low-Wing #54

Post by Gavin » Fri Aug 24, 2012 11:31 am

driven by Oscar Koveleski in Can-Am.

Bought this model a number of years ago & snapped some newer pics. Like GMP's series of Lola T70's they're very nice older models.

Just saw this thread. A couple of years late, but I want this thing. Hopefully I'll be able to find a decent one on ebay. I have to say, I've never seen this version. It looks pretty nice, though I'd settle for Hulme's #5. TSM released a black (Laguna Seca) and a red one (Riverside), but I feel like this car should be had in orange. I'm sure they'll make it, I'll keep biding my time.

Wow, this is awesome. And now that TSM is remaking these is great. I have one from GMP and might add a TSM in black one day of I find a good enough deal.

Thanks guys. The 2 versions that TSM choose to do look really good, In my opinion. Nice to see them using this mold & even better to see them releasing different liveries that haven't been done before.

I'll likely pass on the TSM's, unless they do a high-wing, as I don't have one of those yet.

Does the TSM version show a driver name?

I know Oscar Koveleski drove it for a while, and then turned it over to Tony A to Z.

The GMP version is blank as to driver.

Interesting lineage on the chassis: https://www.racingsportscars.com/chassi ... 8B__2.html

Thanks for that link, Jim...I've used that site numerous times in the past, but hadn't looked up this car. Pretty successful chassis, especially with Bruce McLaren behind the wheel.

Paul Newman drove this one it seems. My old review of it is still up on the website:

I think Paul Newman sponsored it, Chuck Parsons drove it at Riverside in 1971.

Hmm okay. I knew he was an actor who raced sometimes, but interesting that he only sponsored this one

No any comparison to their GMP Ferraris whatsoever!
yes, that's 100% true, but this model was released many years before the Ferraris & in a completely different price universe. Most regular GMPs, as nice as they are, don't compare to their series of Ferraris.
