Not long. This was just a test. I used a small folding table with a backdrop frame held by two clamps. I'm a big fan of natural lighting so no flash, no fill. This was taken handheld at 1/80 second which is too slow for a focal of 200mm even with VR, yet the picture is surprisingly sharp, I mean the subject is sharp. When I'm ready, waiting for 2 orders of accessories and figurines, I will definitely use a tripod. For backgrounds I will use either prints of landscapes I've taken or build 3D structures although model building is not my forte! Long lenses are my tool of choice, I want my subject to standout, not the background, so I can limit the DOF.

Out of curiosity, are you using this on a full frame or aps-c body?

No not full frame, Nikon D300 - DX format
