That's sucks! Must have been hit hard to crack!
Yeah, the seller put it in a good size box, surrounded it with bubble wrap and cardboard reinforcements, and packed it to the gills with packing peanuts. On closer inspection, the damage was worse than I originally thought. The display window is cracked, a hood vent came off, and the front of the car somehow got jacked up. I don't understand it. Is resin that fragile?
I notice more of these damaged resin posts in the winter. Where was this shipped from? Is it cold currently where you are in the Midwest? Resin is much more brittle in the cold. And packing it super tight with peanuts is actually not that great, you want the model box to be slightly loose, otherwise all that inertia goes to the model
Thanks for the info. It came from Texas. It has been mostly cold here, although yesterday not so much, oddly enough.

Nice haul! Are there themes in your collection? Is it displayed? Did we feature it via the DCOTM feature?

Unfortunately, today I also received some bad news. I learned that Schuco has cancelled their 300 SL, which I had preordered. Boo. BOOO!! That car definitely has a place in my collection.

This is the e-mail I received (from Diecast Legends):
Dear [my name]
I am writing to you as someone who has ordered one of the following models, about which I have some news.

SCH0450 - 1:18 Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing - Silver

We have been informed by Schuco that they have cancelled their plans to produce these models.

We take pride in delivering a quality service and it is frustrating when we are unable to fulfil orders and let customers down in this way.

I would like to reassure customers paying by credit card that you have not been charged for this item. If you have paid by Pay pal a refund will be issued back into your account within 14 days.

We am sorry to be the bearer of this disappointing news, and hope that you can understand that it was due to circumstances outside of our control.

Again our sincere apologies for this situation and the disappointment we know this must cause.

Thanks and kind regards

I don't know what to tell you...both CK Models & Modelissimo have them in stock currently, as do numerous European sellers on Ebay.

I have to ask, are you in the Midwest of the US? If so, then why pre-order from a UK shop?

I don't remember exactly how I stumbled across Diecast Legends. They had a preorder option for something I thought I would like, at what seemed like a good price, so I just decided to pull the trigger on it.
