Advice/comparisons on 1/18 models

Post by lloydieboy1984 » Tue Jul 13, 2021 11:38 pm

Hey there,
I am new to the hobby and looking to collect a few cars - possibly some 1:18 and 1:43 scale cars. I'm learning, trying to browse web/video clips from time to time. My intentions is to acquire some models that I like, and test out photographic ideas for studio and outdoor scenes.

So, I am wondering which brands are accurate renditions of the following models in 1:18 for starters...
Aston Martin - DB5/DB7/DB9/1980s Vantage/1990 Virage?
BMW 850
Bugatti - EB110/Veyron/Chiron
Chev - Camaro 60s & modern/Chevelle/Corvette Stingray to C5
Ferrari - 288GTO/308/328/365 BB Boxer/355/360/430/F40/456/Testa/512TR/612
Ford - 60s Mustang/Bullitt/Wick/Eleanor to modern
Dodge - Challenger/Viper RT10/GTS
Jaguar - E type/XJS/XJ220
Lamborghini - Miura/Diablo GT/SV/Jota/Murcielago
Maserati - Bora/Ghibli/Granturismo
McLaren F1
Shelby Cobra

So, I am looking at a mix of Autoart, KK scale, GT Spirit, Minichamps, Tecnomodels. Any others that are recommended? Greenlight? Hot Wheels Elite? Burago?? Ideally I'd prefer the overall shape and color be accurate, no oversized wheels or things like that... and preferably able to turn the wheels?!

Love to see more side by sides of different brands if possible! Always interesting to see them, how they stack up!
Thanks!

Hi, welcome to DS. Based on the above, I don't have a first-hand opinion on some. And the mixed bag of brands moves from entry low budget to more detailed and expensive. Also, depending on the release date if any you will definitely pay a premium on some...

Aston Martin - DB5/DB7/DB9/1980s Vantage/1990 Virage? - AUTOart, possible CMC
BMW 850 - Revell, metal fulll access=, OttOmobile
Bugatti - EB110/Veyron/Chiron - AUTOart
Chev - Camaro 60s & modern/Chevelle/Corvette Stingray to C5 - AUTOart is GREAT for Corvettes on ALL years!
Ferrari - 288GTO/308/328/365 BB Boxer/355/360/430/F40/456/Testa/512TR/612 - Hot Wheels Elite, Kyosho, BBR
Ford - 60s Mustang/Bullitt/Wick/Eleanor to modern
Dodge - Challenger/Viper RT10/GTS - AUTOart
Jaguar - E type/XJS/XJ220 - AUTOart, Kyosho
Lamborghini - Miura/Diablo GT/SV/Jota/Murcielago - AUTOart
Maserati - Bora/Ghibli/Granturismo
McLaren F1 - AUTOart
Shelby Cobra

I'll add a couple:

Ford - 60s Mustang/Bullitt/Wick/Eleanor to modern:
Highway61-Wick & other Boss 302/429
GMP -60's Shelbys & Fox Bodys
Lane- 60's Shelbys
AutoArt -60's Mustangs, including Shelbys, the Bullitt ('68, '01 & '08) & modern SN95, S197 (all trims) & S550 (Shelby only)
AutoWorld/Ertl Authentics- '60s Mustangs & modern S550 GT
For Eleanor, unfortunately, its Shelby Collectibles, Greenlight or Yatming & all of them look exactly the same.

Shelby Cobra-Exoto for 260/289 or Daytona Coupes, though VERY pricey. Norev for 289, Kyosho or Shelby Collectibles for 427

Maserati - Bora & '60s Ghibli-Minichamps
