My nightmare came true!
Sorry if there is a better place to vent about model buying experiences, but this one hurts. About a month ago I found a pretty hard to find 1/18 scale Porsche 964 Turbo 3.6 from GT Spirit and bought it along with another model from the same seller. While it's not the best model ever, I'd argue its the best version of the 3.6 in scale form even if it is sealed and it is indeed rare to see for sale. so I was thrilled to find it (I owned it before, sold it and want it back).
Well, somewhere along the line in shipping the box was tampered with, for whatever reason the customs people opened it and removed the usual styrofoam insert that keeps GTS models safe and thought it was a great idea to put the model back in the box and send it along the way!
I've not seen it yet in person, these pictures are from my brother who didn't want to remove it completely, but apparently the roof is completely removed, as well as the seats and window. It's like a crime scene. Sad to see a model gone.

ah...that sucks for any model, but especially for one that's somewhat rare.
Hopefully the seller/insurance will make you whole.

It can be repaired by someone with skills so if you're not keeping it, put it up on ebay

I'll assess the damage more once I see it, but maybe you're right. Otherwise I'll hang onto it anyways, maybe use the wheels for something.StratosWRC wrote: ↑Wed Jan 11, 2023 6:41 pmit can be repaired by someone with skills so if you're not keeping it, put it up on ebay
In any case, I got a refund for it now but the seller is not responsible so I hope he gets taken care of by ebay protection rules. The seller and I both can't understand how the protective Styrofoam had gone missing in shipping.

Sorry to hear the bad news! I just don't understand why they would remove the protective foam shell

Is there any recourse?SPhilli911 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 11, 2023 10:54 pmThat's the biggest mystery, I cannot wrap my head around it. Maybe intentional? It's crazy.

I got a refund and the seller is also going to be covered, since the damage was most definitely caused buy careless shipping or customs handling.[KRAFTIG] wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 9:51 amIs there any recourse?SPhilli911 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 11, 2023 10:54 pmThat's the biggest mystery, I cannot wrap my head around it. Good! Like Wes said, with some skill it could be fixed. But the juice might not be worth the squeeze.

You got a refund great, are you returning it or keeping it?

As a customizer, I would be interested in seeing what the ultimate condition was. Will you post pictures?

I would sell it on ebay if I were you. You'd be surprised how much it might go for.
Re: My nightmare came true!
Yeah, put it up for sale. You'll be pleasantly surprised.
Mine was a close call... thank God only the box was damaged.
