Mikey, would be interested to know what engines you have. If you prefer not to change this topic thread, meet me at my collection thread. I enjoy threads that meander.

Fantastic. You sure like big steam. Have you run them? The Lionels have wonderful sound and light systems. Their new ones even have a swinging ringing bell, and steam that pours from the whistle when activated.

Yes, these steams (especially Lionels) have quite the list of electronic features, and account for a good chunk of the cost. Unfortunately to run these things, you need quite the layout to accommodate those large radius turns. Thats why mine are parked :rotfl:

Mikey, here's what I did. The expression on the UPS guy, when a long passenger train rumbled by as we stood in the doorway, was priceless. The tracks went through seven rooms, which took around four minutes at moderate speed. I used 96 through 120 radius curves, and my EM-1 had no problems, although I tend to like mid-sized locomotives.

Nice, locomotive collectors!!! I have a few G scale trains. Nothing quite as impressive as those. I have a few diesels and a pair of steams locomotives. Sadly with me recently moving across the world to a flat with no yard I did not bring them, so no photos. They are in storage until I return to the States. But, I can't wait to get a chance to set them up outdoors one day.

All in all I have around $1500 in trains. Just to make this post relevant to the thread.

Now that I keep track of cost, here's what I have so far:

50 models
Total amount spent = $17000 cdn
Avg. price = $340 cdn

What it's "worth" is quite different from what I paid for it. No way to know. Could be slightly more, or slightly less. All the Autoarts have appreciated, exotos not so much cause they were always expensive. GMPs appreciated nicely but they were also expensive to begin with. The CMCs have appreciated. So yeah, hard to say.

Does this really matter to a diecast lover?

In the past 15yrs, I have no idea how much I have paid for my collection and it's worth now. I rather not to know about it, just keep my passion with them,

Brian based on the size of your collection, I'd wouldn't want to know either. :D

I'm in agreement, I'm not in the hobby for the :money: :money: It's all about passion

I buy what I love but I also never overpay.

I have countless $15-25 Autoarts, GMPs, UTs and Exotos which are worth 10-20x that now.

It's just nice to know its there. I don't sell cars for profit unless they are duplicates. Selling a car I love would just lead to me lusting after it and paying more to buy it back lol.

For my small collection I estimate it $5k to $6k for around 40 models.. the current market price is roughly same as expenditure since some rare models have appreciated in value nearly 120% to 150% their original price..
