What is your diecast car collection actually worth?

Post by Mikey MKIV » Tue Nov 26, 2013 2:54 pm

Does anyone have actual tabs on the monetary value of your entire collection? I always wondered how high the number can get. For some it would be easy, others would take a long time, but I wonder how far into the $thousands some of us get?

I use Die Cast Database program. It keeps track of your total and average price at a glance. To date grand total of $28,393.50, average price $79.31 encompassing 363 1:18 models.

Like I said before the collection is only worth what someone is willing to pay :poke:

By my estimates, my 40 or so models are worth about 4-5K

158 models, an aerage of $100 is fair to say, so $15 grand-ish.

are those numbers based on purchase price or current market price? Just wondering.

I have a decent amount of budget models that are worth nothing & I think would cancel out the higher end cars that are worth a lot.

Based on purchase price, I'm at 518 models with an average cost of $39...so just under $20K. Don't tell my wife. :tut: :okay:

WOW!! Kraft,

I need to make an exel database or something, thats a great idea. I bet thatd come in very handy for insurance purposes god forbid weather, fire etc.... Lets just not go there haha.

Im thinking Im around $8-10K somewhere in cars. Although not cars, my 8 locomotives on the same wall are about $20K alone.

How much each model is selling on e-bay is irrelevant to me.
Agreed. eBay is doing more harm than good for the hobby :(

^^Marshall, I have 8 O scale locomotives on the same wall. Although I usually dont like mixing different genre in a single display, my goal was to get everything I have in cases (90% cars, 10% locos) all together on the 26' blank wall.

I was always into cars, and had a small train set growing up, but not too much into displaying engines. However, once introduced to the large scale highend locomotives, I was just blown away by the details, which are more than any car i own. They are all constructed of all metal, and some weigh close to 30lbs. Most of them are brass imports which are extremely rare, and you'd have your work cut out for you trying to find any others for sale on any site in any country. Although not everyones cup of tea, it is very easy to admire the precision and detail going into one of these.

Yes. I have four that I purchased for the purpose of running them through our house.

"There was no bell, just a knocker corroded into silence, so she tapped on the oak door with her knuckles. She waited and then tapped a second time. She pounded with her fist, heard only the dirge of the waves. A gust of cold fog brought a shiver, and her hand moved to the doorknob. She cracked the door open and called. As she stepped into the dark foyer, a train whistle cried out again, louder this time, and a tiny light approached her. Above it roiled a plume of ghostlike smoke. The diamond-ring-sized headlight gradually illuminated its surroundings and she realized the hallway was crossed by miniature railroad tracks. She waited, astounded, as a toy passenger train roared past just in front of her, the engine chuffing realistically, smoking, the many passenger cars filled with two-inch people relaxing in well-lit interiors."
