Die Cast Fighter Jets??

Post by Canadian Wrench Head » Sat Jan 03, 2015 9:20 pm

Anyone collect fighter jets?

Id love to get an F22 Raptor.

Ive done a bit of "googling" around and I see that they use different scales which makes sense since a jet is ALOT bigger then a car. Any idea what scale would be eqiivalent to 1:18(I'm thinking 1:172 from the looks of it) or the equivalent to 1:12?

Also what are some highly respected manufacturers? Who's the Auto Art of Jets?

Thanks

Search eBay for Ultimate Soldier. I have these two TBF Avengers, and they also make other models up to and including the Korean War.

Those are 1/18 scale Nascar stock cars in front, for an appreciation of scale. Remember that these airplanes, in relative terms, are huge next to a car. For example, an Avenger had a crew of three, and a wing span of 54 feet!

I think when you get to planes, and away from cars, you get into a different breed of collector. I believe there are other message boards that specialize in plane collecting, however I don't frequent them. I picked up the two in the picture due to an interest in Flight 19 ("The Lost Squadron"), and then found the other one on the cheap. Got a third one I am having painted to match the one that former President Bush flew in WWII, but that is a huge work in progress right now.

1:400 scale is the most common for collectors. Gemini jets is a good brand, like autoart. They mostly make commercial aircraft, but they do a few fighters I think.

I got 15-17 pieces of 1:48 scale fighters. Absolutely love them.

For 1:18 fighter jets try BBI Elite. Are awesome. Few models from the second WW, too.

I collect war planes that need some assembly. I thought no one would want to see planes, but diecast is diecast so here is a shot of a diecast plane I worked with. I was testing the shutter speed needed to get the prop movement just right. In this plane a string is pulled that winds up the prop to make it rotate. The only light source was a 60 watt bulb which gives it that warm sunrise/sunset look.
