Anyone collect both 1:43 and 1:18?

I collect both 1:43 and 1:18, and I often find myself trying to decide which scale to focus.

If u collect both, what do u see as the advantages of each?

I’ll start. I’m sure there are more.

1:43 requires less space to display esp larger themed collections, less expensive, easier to store/ship increases possibility of recovering costs, more collectors worldwide, greater selection

1:18 more realism, better detail, opening parts, feels better in hand, can be enjoyed from a distance, better value at the entry level.

I don't directly collect 1:43. I have a handful that I received free from shows or gifts. I think one 1:18 is the perfect balance of detail and price. Why do you need anything else?

Same here. 95% 1/18. Only some 1/43 because of some rare race cars from dutch drivers that will never be made in 1/18. So the benefit of 1/43 is (as you mentioned) greater selection.

Other than that I think there are no benefits for 1/43 over 1/18. I personally have plenty of room to display over 500 cars and yes, 1/18 is more expensive, but relative to size I would say 1/43 is far from cheap if you want quality. Also they have (almost) never any opening parts.

I just bought my first 1/43 the other day + 8 1/87 from fronti-art...... I also started collecting HW 1/64s

I like the 1/43 I bought... might get a few more in the future if the detail is good

I have both. Probably more 1/43rds. Guessing - maybe 200 1/43rds and 100 1/18ths.

I do like 1/18th but they take up so much room. However they are becoming ever increasingly better value than 1/43rds

Yes, I collect both, and.....1:24 and 1:12. I also have some various odd scale models....several 1:87, 1:64, 1:14, and 1:16. But the bulk of my collection is in four scales: 1:43, 1:24, 1:18, and 1:12.

Different criteria for all, there are a lot of variables. That said, I am VERY selective, so my total collection is somewhere over 200 pieces, but well under 300.

I'm finding a lot of 1/43 are over-priced, like too close to the 1/18 price . I want to buy most of the Koenigsegg's but the costs are bs

Been thinking a lot lately about 1/43 scale and how I could have had my entire 1/18 collection in 1/43 instead, saving me space and money over time. I don’t regret collecting 1/18 and I am happy with my collection. It took many years to accomplish, which is part of the fun of it, but it also cost a fortune! 1/43 is easier to display, as well, which is a problem for me. My 1/18s are all boxed and in storage since I don't have a feasible way to display at this time.

Does anyone feel they made a mistake collecting a specific scale? I guess it’s best not to think about it too much.

I absolutely agree with this statement. I was where you were many years ago. The exception, I have all my models on display. I thought about 1:43, more for the total variety than anything else, though I have no regrets saying with 1:18. The detail, in general, can't be matched.

Exactly right. No regrets here either, just hard not to think back about the costs and things like that compared to a 1/43 collection. But I agree, the detail in the 1/18s is why I like them so much.

I collect both 1:43's and 1:18's. I am fixed on getting race cars, f1 cars and rally cars in 1:43 since I do not have so much space to have all the world championship cars since the 1900's. But if a model is really well detailed or I am getting a really good deal I go ahead with the 1:18. I bought a lotus type 49 a ford gt 40 and likes like that for really good prices.

I collect both - and a couple of 1/24 (smts lightweight e-type and 330 ferrari). Have about 400 1/43 and 150 1/18".

Personally i don't have a theme - my one criteria is is if i like it.

Do agree that 1/18" are better value - even though more expensive. But I'm running out of room fast - so thats the attraction of 1/43rd

I got rid of my 1/43's, only keeping 1/43s of my 1:1 cars.

I do have 2 Autoart 1/43s for sale cheap if anyone wants. 1 is the Lotus Esprit V8TT in black and a racing Panoz Esperante.
