This lot is one of about 5 different lots scattered through my attic/guest closet/coat closet...

Well.. I do, but isnt'it a silly behaviour after all? It's common knowledge that the models are "not worth much" without the original box, but frankly, I don't give a damn about a stupid box! If I have the choice to buy a "valuable" 2nd hand model "X" at 300$ or an identical model without its space-eating box at 75$, my choice will be easy!

I ran across this thread while at the same time posting, "Who wants my 1/43 display cases?" in another Forum. Early on, I saw that not only is it hard to display 1/43 in their display cases due to the numerous sizes (of cases), but the space needed for box storage is onerous. So, I -- audience aghast! -- tear up the boxes and give away the display cases. I have saved a couple nice boxes (e.g. the GMP Sprint, Midget, Dirt Champ boxes are nice, so I have kept the 3 I have), but any others (even all the Franklin and Danbury Mint foam, etc.) get jettisoned. I haven't let the Antiques Roadshow warnings bother me. I actually am glad when I buy one without a case.

For 1/18 scale I definitely keep the boxes for the ease of moving them or storing if I have to. I did not keep any of my 1/43 boxes and I regret getting rid of them, as moving to a new place is a pain with loose models even in smaller scale.

As a follow up to this, I retired in 2020, and have started downsizing my 1,000+ 1/18 scale diecast collection. Having all the boxes has been invaluable in selling and shipping.

Here is a reason collectors should keep the boxes whether you plan to sell or not, like I wish I did. This is how I transported loose 1/43 cars when moving to a new place. :shame:

I did it once, from an apartment to my current house, which are about 45 miles apart.

No way I was going to let gorilla-handed movers get close to my diecast, so I boxed them in batches and made about a dozen trips.

And that was when I had about half the models I had when I retired.

I've moved 3 times in the last 5 years and each time I let the movers handle everything except the models, which I made multiple trips filling my car with as many as I could fit.

My collection is not as large as many on here, so I can't imagine moving hundreds of models.
