Yeah I auctioned it off on ebay for like $250. Will get the 1/12 Tamiya at some point in the future.

oh one last thing..........If Mattel had the Ferrari license for 15 years, then how could other companies like BBR and Kyosho make Ferrari models?

Something I've been scratching my head about. Im assuming that they paided Mattel a fee per model.

I think our resident Ferrari license expert can answer that for you (Lucky13)

As for the Tamiya or the Kyosho, the 288 GTO is only made by Tamiya.

Basically the Mattel's license entitled them to "budget" or "mass" market channels. Anyone else had to create models in the "high-end" spectrum, $200+

I still have my MIB 288 GTO HWF sitting at my parents' house. They're going for crazy money now! Part of me is tempted to sell it to fund another car in my theme now, but it's hard to let go of such an iconic car from my younger years.

I don't collect Ferrari anymore (or else I'd spend even more on models), but I'm also curious to see what the new license holders come up with!

Only time will tell as they say. I have to say I'm happy with the news in certain cases as their production is faster than Mattel and the cost will certainly be lower. The accuracy on details...well nothing is ever perfect. As the recent elite and heritage line releases have been showing endless QC issues maybe Maisto and Bburago will do a better job or maybe it will just increase the business for the modders out there to create accurate parts for the models haha.

Have to say though, the recent stingray and mustang release are pretty decent for the budget level. Lines are clean minus the dog legs but hey if you don't want to spend $500 on BBR then maybe it will be a better choice for all.

See them hinges on the hood to support open and close motion them are commonly known as dog legs. A similar engineered hinges in commonly used on doors too.

They're not as realistic for most parts as a proper pin hinge, such as AUTOart usually uses.

ok.....let me ask you this. Has anyone had the chance to review/look at the Bburago Lamborghini Reventon yet. Ive only seen pics of it in its box and it actually looks decent. I would say that Auto Art's will blow it out of the water but the price difference might be the eqalizer

No, but it won't be anywhere near the detail. It also may be out scale too. That being said their best effort In my opinion is the Dodge Viper done under the Maisto brand:
