Trying out new photo backgounds & surfaces

Post by Puma Cat » Sun Aug 10, 2014 10:58 pm

I've been looking into different backgrounds for photographing models. Today I got some stone tiles that give a more natural look than acrylic or seamless.

Let me know which ones you like...

Jag on a gray slate tile...more closely emulates a road-like surface.

Jag on a light tile surface that looks more like a desert or dry lake bed.

That's nice, I like it. I just use our wooden dining table haha.

Thanks...do you have a preference of one over the other? Both are lit inside a Giottos Table Top Photo Studio and a Canon speedlite shooting through a Lastolite Ezy Box softlite. The speedlite is triggered by Pocket Wizards.

Good but I think the above would look better with a black car or darker colour in general.

I tried shooting outside on the balcony, with a lighter table top and a brick background, but I find that cars look a lot better with a dark background, especially older cars and classics. My table top is dark and I think they come out looking not too shabby.

In my opinion the upper one looks better.

I bought carbon fiber looking vinyl wrap they use for real car "tuning" for my photo background.
Got few colours and experimented.
In the end I really liked the result with black and red.

Actually, I think I prefer the "classic" black carbon fiber background. Where did you get your vinyl wrap?

By darker color, you mean darker color for the car?
