AUTOart Porsche 911 (993) Carrera - Blue

Post by [KRAFTIG] » Fri Dec 29, 2017 12:33 pm

Being a HUGE Porsche fan I don't know why it took me so long to add the AUTOart version of the 1:18 Porsche 911 (993) Carrera. I went with Blue and the two-tone interior of Black and White. This model overall is really sharp, dare I say the best example in 1:18 diecast. What puzzles me the most, AUTOart has a great base model for a number of years now, why in gods name haven't they executed on the entire 993 platform??? Enjoy the pics!

Nice addition to your collection Kraftig.
I have this model aswell and I'm very happy with it. Upon release, there were a lot of complaints about build quality and shortcuttings, but I can live with them. This model fits the rest of my autoart porsche collection very well. Nowadays, we would be happy to see autoart release this kind of quality...

Really? I don't remember the banter, what were the issues?

I remember complaints about the Porsche crest being out of scale (too thick) but that’s it. I can live with that, lol.

Great pictures. I think the 993 is AutoArt's best 911 variant. It seems to me the overall shape is superior to the other generations.

The paint line on the door panels leaves a little to be desired, and the transition from beige to black should be at the next higher seam, but those are minor complaints.

They could make the 993 RS very easily. Very few new parts needed: wheels, steering wheel, rocker panel extension, airdam and rear wing. Interior is same as the 964 RS. Brakes are technically different but they can just paint them red.

The widebody cars require a new body shell, but still require minimal new parts.

Same story with the 964 chassis - only one model. They also seem to be against making any Targa or cabrio variants for some reason.

Some cost cutting is visible - on the other generations all the hinge assemblies were painted body color. On the 993 they appear to all be plain zinc.

We can only hope they make more 993 variants! And keep the opening parts they've ALREADY DESIGNED AND DEVELOPED TOOLING FOR. Not like the RWB creation that only has opening doors.

Yes I absolutely agree with you.

I like how you pointed out the minor issues, something a part enthusiast of the brand would over look. Thanks.

I really hope they make more of the 993 platform.

I do however think they are pricey. Almost double what normal AAs used to be it seems.

If you don't want that silver one you reviewed some months ago, I offer you $3.50 !

Very cool, thanks for the pictures. I'm tempted to grab one of these too, but I told myself I wouldn't buy any standard 911s, since my collection is strictly "top tier" 911 models, like the GT2, GT3, RS, RSR, Turbos and so on.

But! I would love to see AA take this model and use it as a base to make a base model 993 Carrera RS, since the UT version is super old not and not the greatest quality. On the same note, I wish AA would take their 964 Carrera RS and use it as a base for other 964 variants, like an RS NGT which would really only require them to modify the interior of the base RS!
