Polishing paint using a low speed Dremel

Post by Packard Fan » Tue Jan 12, 2021 1:38 pm

Curious if others have ever tried used a Dremel tool to polish/buff the finish on their Diecast models, obviously your using a low speed setting, just curious if this is a viable alternative to hand polishing....

Yes, try at 5000 rpm with polishing compound and a cotton polishing pad. Wrap the - what's it called - the thingy that holds the attachment in place - in tape so that if it accidentally touches the paint it doesn't scuff it. I just keep looking for good quality attachments that won't have cotton flying all over the place and so far have had no luck on Amazon.

Yeh,agree as to the quality of attachments on Amazon, I’m thinking actual Dremel attachments would hopefully be of a higher quality..

Don't forget to mask sharp edges. It doesn't take a lot of force and polishing to go through the paint on those points as the paint is thinner and it's easier to put too much pressure on it.
