One of the premier scale makers in the industry is moving forward with one of the most iconic cars of all time, the Jaguar E-Type in Coupe and Convertible form. Personally we consider the Jaguar E-type series sex on wheels. Amalgam’s version is over the top with access to every inch of detail. But all this attention to detail and large scale does come at a price, usually around the $9000US mark!
About the E-type… “Originally the E-type was available either as an open two-seater, or as a fastback fixed-head coupé. Both cars shared the same basic structure, a monocoque with a front subframe, and were powered by a 3.8-litre version of the proven Jaguar XK engine, developing 265bhp (gross). Four-wheel disc brakes were fitted, and for the first time Jaguar used the sophisticated independent rear suspension, developed by Bob Knight.
The E-type’s looks were sensational, and it quickly became a symbol of the 1960s. Thanks to its unbeatable combination of price and performance, offering a top speed of close to 150mph (241km/h) at little more than £2000, it became an instant success, particularly in the vital American market. The E-type attracted many celebrity and VIP owners, from the world of motor racing and show business, as well as Royalty.”

Magnificent! Fortunately, I do not collect in this scale, but it will be really nice to see 1/18 scale Series 1 coupes and roadsters in more exterior colors besides red, cream, silver green, and black, and all coupes featuring interiors with colors other than black.
Problem is, if Amalgam were to make a 1/18 scale series 1 E type, the price tag would conservatively be around the $2,000 to $3,000 mark? Which I think makes the AUTOart Signature model very good value for money. And that’s taking into account the fact that they are fetching prices around $700 – $800 these days.
