It’s that time of year once again we call upon the scale model community to help define the Model of the Year for 2017. Overall we believe 2017 to be somewhat under whelming, thought there were a few highlights, only they were few and far between. We would say overall momentum took a bit of a down tread. Overall excitement was lacking and the trend of sealed versus opening scale is still growing. Resin is a huge part, and still taking market share.
That being said we want your input on what BRAND and MODEL you believe is the best of best. As always, the most expensive model isn’t necessarily our guaranteed winner, but we’ll let the masses cast their vote when the final list is finally revealed. So please, add your best of the best candidate(s) using the comments field below. Thank you.
1/18 MR Centenario full carbon
1/18 CMC Talbot-Lago Coupé T150 C-SS Figoni & Falaschi
My vote as well – got one yesterday Awesome – per CMC’s usual level of scaled detailing.
MJD
1/18 BBR Models Ferrari 812 Superfast
1/43 MR PAGANI HUAYRA ROADSTER
AUTOart Porsche 918 Spyder
I am a die-hard Porsche fan so my vote goes to the Autoart Porsche 918 Spyder Weissach. (In my opinion the best supercar of all time.) Only downside is that it’s not diecast.
1/18 Almost Real Land Rover Defender in green colour, it is not almost, is real in scale!
Schuco 1:10 BMW R100 RS
1/18 CMC Talbot-Lago Coupé T150 C-SS Figoni & Falaschi
77925 AUTOart -1/18 – PORSCHE 918 SPYDER WEISSACH PACKAGE (GT SILBER METALLIC/SILVER METALLIC)
Mercedes CLK GTR by GT Spirit is absolutely amazing. I’ve seen many GT Spirit models and many of them are not that good. Every brand has a masterpiece and a model that they use to stand out and I believe this is one of them. I still can’t believe I only paid $110 for it (shipped)
1/18 AutoArt Lamborghini Aventador SV
1/18 Porsche 918 Spyder – Autoart
1/18 Brabus 500 4×4^2 – GT Spirit

BBR FERRARI F12TDF in diecast(if it’s available in 2017). Frontiart Regera diecast also and of course Talbot Lago from CMC
It´s not released yet, but the BBR diecast Ferrari F12 tdf clearly is a contender. And if it will turn out to be as good as the pictures suggest, I´d personally prefer it over any resin or composite. Very likely we will have the same discussion as last year. We´ve already had the comments that said “I am Porsche fan, so…” who are happy to overlook shortcomings (engine bay) because they focus on subject matter or “CMC … diecast at its best” who stress built quality and favourite material. When it comes to my vote, I ´ll try and balance aspects instead of automatically picking my favourite car brand, my favourite model material or most impressive craft. Ideally all of it comes together in one model.
Not applicable, won’t be available in 2017.
My retailer lists it for December 2017 and says this was according to BBR.
Not happening this year based on my sources. 2018 MOTY!
Could be, or BBR LaFerrari Diecast
My favorite shop’s owner, who is in close friendship with Mr Reali (the R from BBR) told me it will be available before Christmas. Not all color variants, but at least the red.
This has to be a diecast car. There is no skill involved in producing a sealed resin model, which is really not much more than a plastic toy. Something like the CMC Talbot Lago is a work of art, from the engineering to the watchmakers-like skill needed to put it together. Those are the masterpieces innthis hobby. Not some plastic piece with decals.
So add your top three!
We’re adding the AUTOCRAFT W Motors Lykan HyperSport. Though it came on in late November it missed the official 2016 list. Super piece, fully opening, and amazing price point.
1:18 AvanStyle Aston Martin Vulcan & Autoart Zonda Revolucion (Retro)
AUTOart Zonda is not applicable here. Sorry.
1. GT Spirit RUF Yellow Bird
2. Frontiart Agera RS1
3. BBR Pagani BC – Presentation Car
1:12 GT Spirit Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster. Although made in resin, this is an amazing model in silver with red interior.
The upcoming Welly GTA Bugatti Chiron
Would be nice; don’t know if it will meet the deadline.
AutoArt Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4SV
“Old style”, i.e. with openings, loads of details and overall stunning look and feel!
I like the orange version best :-)
In general I find the trend of sealed resin models positive as it allows for small series of niche models that otherwise would never be on offer. Some manufacturers however, aren’t very creative in the choice of their resin models with loads of duplicates, others ask far too high prices for the value they offer.
AutoART NISSAN WANGAN MIDNIGHT DEVIL Z.
This one was release at the very end of last year but not included in the 2016 MOTY.
It deserves to run for 2017 MOTY.
Almost Real 1/18 Range Rover
AUTOart Porsche 918 Spyder
Anyway the year isn’t important the important is to press bbr for more diecast. They have proven to make excellent diecast when they want to.I think there should be two categories best die cast and best resin because they can’t be compered.
I nominate the Ilario 1:18 1949 Delahaye 175 S Roadster Saoutchik SN 815023 in Blue. It matters not that this is a resin model with no opening parts. It’s a masterful scale reproduction of a stunning and unique automobile design. Its perfect scale proportions in all of its exquisite detail makes it one of the best scale representations I have ever seen. It is the pride of my collection, which includes over 160 conventional metal die-cast models and closed resin models by many model makers including CMC, Minichamps, AutoArt, BBR and many others. Resin was the correct medium for this model; Ilario has been able to craft a piece in which one has to make no allowance for clumsy, out of scale shut-lines and paint variations that even the best model manufacturers struggle to overcome in multi-piece die-cast models in 1:18 scale.
Yes, good call!
This is one which I’ve quite inexplicably forgotten about inexplicable since I’m the guy who reviewed it here on this site! You are correct, and I retract my previous comment about the Model of the Year needing to be an actual die cast.
The Ilario Delahaye is as close to perfect as a model can get. Yes, it’s sealed, but the interior is open, and the detail is beyond belief. And, as far as design goes, the look of this model is stunning! Just the chrome detail alone is worth it being the best of the year!
TopSpeed Model 2013 F-Type ‘Project 7’ Concept
I’m afraid to say its was a sealed car that i did buy in Black as i missed out getting the Blue(the original colour) that gets my pick,it was quite a expensive model, but i believe the best Ive every seen in resin.
The 1949 Delahaye Saoutchik-bodied Type 175 S by French company Ilario
1/18 Kyosho, Land Rover Defender 90
Mine is white as Red Cross. Just look at the screws on door hinges!!!!
Minichamps BMW 3.5 csl
It is the end of an era! Diecast old school with opening parts and a lot of details for a great price.
1/18 Scarab By Replicarz.
1/18 Norev BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage
Norev should be represented in the race with at least a model and especially one from the “Hommage” BMW series.
1/18 Lamborghini Aventador SV from AUTOart
1. Almost real defenders in1:18
2. Almost real range rover in 1:18
3. Frontiart koenigsegg regera full opening version in 1:18
1/12 Lancia Delta HF evo 2 1992 TopMarques, gialla
1:18 Topspeed Aston Martin DB11
1/18 Autoart Mclaren P1 Volcano Yellow
Given the rather ho-hum year, if CMC can get their D50 to market, they will surely walk away with it.
Model of the year
Koenigsegg RS1 by Frontiart
MR 1 18 bugatti vision gt
I believe this one arrived in 2016
Frontiart Koenigsegg RS1
BBurago Signature Ferrari FXXK
I think we would have to choose 2 contenders: one for diecast with full opening and one for sealed resin…
Lamborghini Aventador SV Autoart 1/18
Ferrari F40 LM Davis & Giovanni (resin) 1/18
Laudo Racing 1:18 Fiat 131 Abarth Stradale
Kyosho announced it many years ago but never went into production. So I’m very happy to get it from Laudo now.
Alfa Romeo 2600 Top Speed 1/18
Alfa Romeo 2600 was an important car of the years 60, never reproduced before in 1/18
The model is well dono with an accetable price.
CMC Lancia D50, wil arrive just in time to Christmas :-)

Top Speeds 1/18 Ecurie Ecosse inspired F-Type Jaguar Project 7
I believe AUTOart’s Toyota 2000GT Upgraded (spoke wheels) in 1:18 scale is no doubt the best model till date. Regards.
For me it has to be the Auto art Avantador SV 1:18 as other models more expensive are not as good quality as this one.
CMC Talbot Lago T150.. SUPERB!
My favourite model released this year is Spark’s AMG GT3, in green, driven by Maro Engel at the 2016 Macau GT World Cup.
I think the best of the best is the Auto Art Lamborghini Aventador SV in the 1:18 scale size. I am sure other models are better but they are very expensive, even though the AutoArt is not exactly cheap itself but is a amazing finish and quality for the price.
Autoart Porsche 918 Spyder 1.18

Gt-spirit Porsche 991 gt3 rs 1.18

1/18 BUgatti Chiron GTAUTOS
Aventador auto arts sv 1-18 is best one i think.
AUTOART 1:18 FORD XB FALCON TUNED VERSION “BLACK INTERCEPTOR”
I have been waiting for this car for years! I did own the Mad Max 2 movie version but it was never the version I actually wanted. Even though AUTOart wasn’t able to market the new car as the original movie version..
Such a nice piece. They sent us one for review, just finishing it up.
A very lovely piece indeed! Hey just curious, do you get to keep the ones they send you for review or do you have to return them?
Usually yes.
AUTOart Aventador SV 1 18 is best models always.
