Britain's Auto Express says longtime sports car superpower Audi is poised to end its involvement in endurance and touring car racing in favor of a Formula 1 engine program, to be launched in 2016. Citing unnamed "insiders" and "multiple sources," Auto Express claims the German marque is under pressure from parent company VW to leave the sports car field to sister brand Porsche. Instead, the report says, it will re-assign its Le Mans and DTM budgets to F1 and align with one of the sport's top teams, likely Red Bull Racing.

I'm skeptical of the rumour, and would certainly hope this doesn't happen. I can see how Audi could build a good F1 car, but the relevance (and entertainment factor) in my opinion is far less than in the increasingly popular WEC series.

Yeah but it's just the engines. Who's gonna make the rest? If the car was built by Audi as well, that'd be perfect. But engines only? Meh

I guess they've gotten bored of dominating Lemans. Skeptical but I guess I'll wait and see. Diesel F1 engines, maybe?

Why would they leave Le Mans just when it's about to have the most populated LMP1 grid in 2015?
And they're still in second place, behind Toyota in the World Endurance Championship. No one mentions that lol

Haha yeah. Had me laughing when I read that the undertray has to make more sparks when the cars bottom out.
